Diseases of the nervous system: causes, symptoms
One of the fundamental medical laws is: the more complex the system, the easier it is to damage it. This law is fully valid in relation to the nervous system: its organization is incredibly complex and diverse, and how complex and diverse are its diseases. Since 1998, diseases of the nervous system have occupied the third place in the frequency of disability among the population. Now it is more than 11% of all disabled people and almost 7% of new cases of disability for every 10 thousand people.
Every year, the percentage of incidence is only growing. And this happens along with an increase in cases of car accidents, environmental degradation, and a catastrophic decline in living standards. Vascular diseases, diabetes mellitus, progressive aging of the population … As long as these factors exist, neurologists will not be left without work.
Having information about the causes and clinic of the main socially significant nervous diseases, the patient can find them in time. Early self-diagnosis makes diseases of the nervous system much less dangerous, because it allows you to turn to a neurologist in time and at the very beginning of the development of the disease select the right treatment method, thereby ensuring its maximum effectiveness.
Causes of some diseases of the nervous system
The reasons why certain pathologies of the nervous system arise are incredibly diverse. Strokes occur against the background of cerebrovascular disease, atherosclerosis and hypertension. The development of epilepsy is often triggered by traumatic brain injuries.
There are diseases of the nervous system of a congenital nature. This is Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s syndrome, and many forms of cerebral palsy (including cerebral palsy), and some types of epilepsy. A number of diseases, for example, meningitis, encephalitis, including tick-borne, and polio so widespread earlier, arise after infection with certain infections.
Why do diseases such as multiple sclerosis, myasthenia gravis, neurosis and migraine arise – is still not a solvable question for scientists. No exact answer has been found.
Symptoms of Nervous Disease
Of course, each disease has specific symptoms. However, there are similar manifestations that accompany almost any nervous pathology.
In addition to focal symptoms (paralysis, speech disorders, etc.), which allows you to find out exactly where the violation occurred, there is a category of “cerebral” symptoms. These signs, as a rule, arise regardless of the type of pathology and are “beacons” of many neurological problems.
Such manifestations that demonstrate diseases of the nervous system include:
– headache;
– vomiting;
– impaired consciousness;
– dizziness and tinnitus;
– pain in the eyeballs and visual impairment.
Some diseases of the central nervous system have strictly specific symptoms. For example, epilepsy and similar pathologies lead to convulsive seizures, and parkinsonism involves motor and mental disorders.
In conclusion, I would like to note that, as in any field, in neurology, the success of treatment depends primarily on how timely it was started. This is important due to the fact that diseases of both the central and peripheral nervous systems often entail consequences that pose a serious danger to human health and their quality of life.
